Do I need my baluster cut to length?

Yes, you need to cut your balusters to length to ensure they fit properly in your staircase or railing project. You will need an angle cut on the top of the baluster on the sloped section of the stairs.

Do I need threaded holes?

Threaded holes (drill & tap) are needed if you are installing using a metal bar that is used to secure the balusters that sits under the wooden handrail.

Threaded holes are 1/4"-20. If you need compatible screws, you find them here.

Do I need drilled thru holes?

Drilled thru holes with a countersink are needed if you are securing the balusters directly into the wooden handrail without the use of a metal bar.

Counter sunk thru holes are 7/32". If you need compatible wood screws, you can find them here.

Do I need angle cuts?

Angle cuts are optional but recommended for sloping handrails to ensure the balusters fit perfectly with the handrail.

If you need help measuring the angle, please text or call Andrew at 647-354-5506 or send a message through our online contact form.

Do I need powder coating?

Powder coating is not strictly necessary, but it is highly recommended for balusters. Powder coating is used for aesthetic appeal and as a protective layer. It is applied as a dry powder and cured under heat. It provides a tougher finish than traditional paints and is more resistant to scratching, chipping, and fading. We do powder coating in-house and offer different colors.

What powder coating colors do you offer?

We offer a wide selection of powder coating finishes, including Satin Black, Matte Black, Oil-Rubbed Bronze, Matte White, Semi-Gloss Black, Copper Vein, Black Fine Sand, Silver Vein, and more. If we don't stock a color, we can order it in. Feel free to contact us to discuss more.

What are the pros and cons of solid balusters?

Pros: Solid balusters offer additional strength and durability which lengthens the lifespan of a staircase. Solid reduces vibrations, noise and rattling as people use the staircase. They also feel higher quality than hollow balusters.

Cons: Solid balusters are heavier than hollow balusters, which can make it more difficult to install. If shipped, solid balusters also cost more to be delivered.

Do you sell hollow balusters?

All of our balusters are solid with exception of the following:

These balusters are hollow but have a metal insert at the top for pre-drilled holes.

What happens if I scratched my baluster?

It's possible to damage the baluster and scratch some of the powder coat off. You can touch up small scratches using spray paint.

If you got your balusters flat black powder coated, you can use this spray paint here.
